Are you looking to rediscover yourself and see things from a different perspective? Or perhaps you’re not quite sure what’s going on inside you, and finding the right words feels difficult?

In our sessions, it’s not about perfection or artistic skill. It’s about exploring and experiencing. Through open-ended creative work or simple guided tasks, you can use materials such as painting, clay, or drawing to find a different way of connecting with what’s moving within you – and perhaps be surprised by what emerges when words aren’t quite enough.

The creative process offers you the chance to discover new aspects of yourself, to view things from another angle, and to gain surprising personal insights.

No artistic experience is required – all you need is curiosity and a willingness to let yourself be creatively surprised.

Inner restlessness and challenging emotions

Do you sometimes feel stressed or drained?
Do you ever find it hard to concentrate or think clearly?
Are there moments when different feelings — such as dissatisfaction, sadness, anger or worry — take up more space than you’d like?

New perspectives and personal boundaries

Do you notice certain patterns coming up again and again, and wish to explore them from a fresh perspective? Do you sometimes find it difficult to take your own needs seriously, set boundaries, or stand up for yourself clearly?

Transitions, loss and orientation

Perhaps you’ve lost something important — a relationship, a sense of purpose, or a familiar role — and would like a safe space to explore this change through creativity. Or maybe you feel stuck, uncertain, or a little lost, and are looking for new inspiration, ways to express yourself, or fresh perspectives?

Art Therapy:
Insights and Experiences

During art therapy sessions, you can engage with yourself in a creative way. Creative expression allows you to notice inner tension, make feelings visible, and enjoy moments of calm.

The creative process creates space to explore new perspectives, gain clarity, or gather energy. Paying attention to your own feelings and needs can support self-awareness, confidence, and a positive outlook.

Every journey is unique, and experiences may differ from person to person. Art therapy provides a safe space where you can explore your personal experience and express yourself creatively.

In the first three sessions, we explore a variety of materials. You will have the chance to try out different forms of creative expression, such as painting, drawing, clay, or collage – and to get a feel for which materials resonate with you and support your personal creative process. These initial sessions are not only about discovering the methods, but also about beginning our collaboration: you will get an impression of my approach, and it often becomes clearer which direction your focus may take and which themes naturally arise. Your interests and goals also often start to become more defined during this phase.

Following these introductory sessions, we focus on your personal interests in a tailored process, typically over 10 to 15 sessions. The exact duration depends on how your process unfolds – each journey is unique and follows its own rhythm. Depending on your focus and what feels most relevant at the time, art therapy can include both structured exercises and free creative work. Sometimes a specific task or framework is helpful to explore or organise a particular aspect. At other times, the process emerges more freely and intuitively, flowing from what is alive for you in the moment.

In art therapy, we work with a variety of materials and techniques – drawing, painting, and working with clay are among the most common. Each material engages different aspects of experience and expression and can support your creative process in its own way.

Drawing can encourage clarity, focus, and alertness. It helps you stay present and can make it easier to notice thoughts and feelings as separate experiences. Painting with colours, especially watercolours, often feels relaxing and can connect with emotional expression. Each colour has its own character and can evoke or balance different moods. Working with clay engages action and touch. Shaping material with your hands activates the sense of touch – a direct way to explore physical and spatial awareness. This can be especially engaging when working with themes like personal space or self-expression. Handling and shaping materials with your hands can boost confidence and a sense of inner strength.

Each technique has a different effect: whether you work directly with your hands or with a brush, use soft watercolours, bold pastels, charcoal, or wax crayons, apply or blend the material, work in black and white or colour, with your dominant or non-dominant hand – all of these choices engage different aspects of your experience. Which materials and techniques suit you best will usually become clear during the first three sessions. As your process continues, you will discover what feels most supportive and meaningful for you.

The tasks I suggest are tailored to your interests, preferences, and goals. No artistic experience is required – and there’s no need to worry about whether something “looks good.” The focus is on your personal process, not the final result.

R., 31 Years

"I chose art therapy because I felt that my inner world and difficult experiences were hard to fully explore through conversation alone. The sessions with Svenja were amazing! She provided me with valuable tools to explore my own life story, reflect on experiences that were difficult to talk about, and develop greater self-trust. Through the process, I learned to approach my life more mindfully and handle everyday challenges with greater resilience. I had no artistic background or prior experience, and none was needed to benefit from art therapy."
Artistic activities offer an opportunity to express your sensations and thoughts and engage with them.

While psychotherapy is aimed at diagnosing and treating mental health conditions, art therapy works with artistic processes to make inner experiences visible, strengthen emotional resources, and support personal development.

The focus lies on expression through artistic means such as colour, form and material. Through creative activity, new pathways to thoughts, feelings and experiences can emerge. These may support therapeutic processes, bring clarity, promote inner balance and facilitate change – both non-verbally and through guided conversation.

Art therapy is intended for people who wish to use their creativity as a resource, as well as for those facing personal, emotional or challenging issues and seeking an experiential, creative approach. It offers a safe space for expression, reflection and inner growth.

Art therapy is an independent therapeutic approach and does not replace medical or psychotherapeutic treatment when such treatment is required. This offering is not part of the regulated healthcare services in Finland.

Participation is based on personal motivation and responsibility.
